Tattoos and piercing carry a risk of infection both because the insertions of needles break down the body's protective skin barriers and also because equipment and dyes can be contaminated with blood borne pathogens. Recently, cases of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) have been associated with tattooing. What are your thoughts about tattooing and what can you do to make sure you are free from possible exposure

  1. I think that tattoos are a person's own choice. Their choices aren't affecting my life, or anyone else's besides their own. However, I do think they should be aware of the risks a tattoo may carry, and the best way is to be educated, and to pick an institution that is trusted and has passed all health regulations and inspections.

  2. I think that everyone has the freedom to get a tattoo if that is there choice. I am not opposed to the idea of it. However I do believe that when getting a tattoo its important to be mindful of the process. This meaning that people shouldn't be afraid to ask the artists questions regarding health & the cleaning of utensils. It also is smart to look around and make sure you pick a reputable establishment.

  3. I don't think there is anything wrong with having tattoos at all. Every individual has the freedom to choose if they want one or not. Many individuals have a tattoo for inspiration or from losing a loved one, so they are very meaningful. The only thing I would say about tattoos though is to be cautious where you get it on your body so that if you have a job interview it is covered up. Lastly, to make sure you are free from possible exposure, I would look up information on tattooing places so you know what the best one is. Once your at the place I would ask the artist specifics on the tools he/she is using and make sure everything is safe.

  4. Tattoos is something that is permanent and its the persons choice whether they want to get one or not. Many people who gets tattoos are aware of the risks of infection and know it isn't something they can take back once it is on their bodies. My advice to anyone who is getting a tattoo is to research where they are going and make sure it is a well known place. Some places can be sketchy and it can run a higher risk of infection.

  5. tattoo is a permanent mark that will stay on one's body. I personally thought of getting tattoos but i am afraid that i will not like it later in my life. so it might take a long time to make the decision of getting a tattoo. however, piercing on the other side has room for me to regret. i can take of my earring and leave it for some months, the piercing will close up by itself.

  6. I personally have multiple piercings and tattoos and I love them! I do not fit the usual stereotype for them, in fact, my 'blonde, cheerleader, sorority girl' look might be the exact opposite. In my numerous experiences with both tattoos and piercings, I always make sure to go to a clean and reputable shop. I make sure that the artist is using a new and sterilized needle and follow all instructions for aftercare. I make sure to keep the fresh wound clean with a gentle, unscented soap and out of any situation in which infection is common, such as swimming pools, lakes, etc.

  7. I personally have a few piercings of my own and, though I currently have no tattoos, I think tatooing is an art and that everyone should have choice to do what they want with their own bodies. I know from friends and my own experiences that tatooing and pericing can go very wrong if the task is not done with the proper procedure and care. My advice to anyone getting a piercing or tatoo is to research the place where they wish to go. Make sure the artsist/piercer is certified and that the place has good reviews. I also highly reccomend going to physically check out the facility and its staff for yourself and most importantly follow the proper aftercare rules.

  8. I personally don't think there is anything wrong with tattoos or piercings. Every person has the freedom to choose what they want to be done to their body. However, something to consider is whether or not you are able to work in a certain job field because of the tattoo. With getting a tattoo or piercing, you are making your body more susceptible to different infections. To ensure that you are free of these risks, I would recommend doing a lot of research about the place where you want to get it done. It is very important to make sure the shop is sanitary to prevent infections or the spread of diseases.

  9. I don't have any tattoos, and if you are afraid of getting infections from tattoos, then yes, this is probably the easiest way to do it. However, it is foolish to expect to restrict people's choice to get tattoos. Always vet the tattoo shop of your choice, and if possible, talk to previous customers about their experience there before you make your choice.

  10. I find tattoos to be absolutely revolting. I just don't understand why anybody would wish to defile their bodies by having ink injected under their skin, but to each their own. I don't hate those with tattoos. To avoid any sort of complications related to tattoos, simply don't get any.

  11. I am a total supporter of tattoos! It is a great way to express yourself and to carry around art on your body. I am a strong believer that your body is a canvass and you should paint it with your soul. There is risks in everything you do, and it all starts when you get out of bed. Everyday the body is exposed to billions even trillions of germs. It is important that when getting tattoos you are sure to do your research. Check out a few tattoo shops, check their reviews online, and make sure that they meet your clean standards. You should always make sure that they shop uses clean and unused materials and that is just as much your responsibly as it is theirs. After getting body modifications you should be sure to take care of everything properly.

  12. To get a tattoo, you must be willing to risk getting an infection (although very rare). If someone is willing to get a tattoo even with the risks, they should take certain precautions like knowing the place your getting your tattoo from and where it's reputable. Also, taking some time to know the proper treatment and how to apply any sanitary medication is the responsibility of the customer and their seriousness about the after care is what really determines how the tattoo will effect them, either positive or negative.

  13. I have a tattoo that covers my chest up and its a beautiful piece of art work that represents my Grandma and what she loved. I think Tattoos are art on that body that display a story. The infection part for me wasn't a problem because i went to New Jersey and they have to clean and change the needle every time so i didn't have an issue going to get one. For me tattoo are becoming more and more acceptable. Tattoos don't change a person or make them different its just art work.

  14. I have six tattoos and have never had any type of issue with them. I know infections and disease exist with tattoos but if someone is planning on getting one, I would recommend asking around to see where the best and cleanest place to get a tattoo would be. Also, clean and reliable tattoo shops always use new tools or sterilize the equipment in front of you.

  15. I would love to get a tattoo someday honestly. But I am going to take steps to make sure that I am getting it from a safe place. I could ask my friends who have tattoos (probably more than one) and find out whether or not a tattoo at a certain place would be a good idea or if they are known to have certain health issues. I would want to trust the place that gives me something permanent.

  17. I think getting tattoos is a persons own choice, they have to know what the risks are and it is permanent on your body. I think tattoos are very cool because its a way for people to express through art and creativity. They are is risks to getting tattoos. I personally want a tattoo, but I do not want it to look ugly when I'm older and I also want a good professional job and not have to worry about covering up my tattoos.

  18. in my opinion, everyone has their own rights to choices get a tattoo or not. There are number of people have a tattoo for their inspiration, so we don’t have rights to interference. However, people really need to make a decision that what kind of tattoo they want it, because tattoo is not easy to clean it.

  19. Really know the people giving you the tattoo, have them thoroughly wash all the equipment before your use, and try and get the ink from a very highly regarded source. As for getting the tattoo itself many people have beliefs and views they want to carry with them so I understand that fully.

  20. I have tattoos and am very supportive of them. I believe it is a talent that goes over looked by many and is many times frowned upon when really its just art and expression, aren't we told to express ourselves? This seems to be a huge problem in the work force and I believe it should stop because no man or woman is uneducated because they have a rose or cross on their forearm, or a finger tattoo. When it comes to the health risks, I believe everything has it's risks. The only way to prevent this is to research the parlor you are going to, watch if the needles and tools or coming from clean bags. Trust your gut instinct, if you don't feel like its a clean place it probably isn't. Most importantly educate yourself on the tattoo process and what is going into your skin. Anyone can get a tattoo but when you are aware of what really is going on, you are less likely to experience anything but art from the tattoo.

  21. i do not currently have any tattoos but i would like to get a tattoo i am not at all worried about the regret that many people would worry about and the health risks are very avoidable if you just go to a tattoo parlor that has regulations to have sterile equipment and just a clean environment and make sure the tattoo is taken care of properly after it is done

  22. Personally, I like tattoos. I have my whole side done and I love it. However to ensure I didn't get any diseases I took a long time researching tattoo shops and see their ratings on cleanliness and the things they do to ensure the needles are clean. Having them open the needles in front of me was a big must that way I knew they were sterile and weren't used on someone else.

  23. First of all, there are risks to everything or anything anyone does to their bodies, including all types of surgies. Now, whether you want to take that risk is up to you. I have tattoos and know plenty of people who have decided to take the risk as well. I think that all depends on the person and what their type of style is. With deciding to take the risk comes the responsibility of being cautious. There are places where they don't provide sanitized and clean neddles for each individual, which leaves you with a chance of exposure to all kinds of infections. It is your responsibility to properly care for you body, thus if you're willing to take the risk then be thorough and careful enough when choosing a place and artist. This also means taking the necessary to maintain your tattoo clean.

  24. I did my project on tattoos and some of the information I found changed my perspective of them. Although I do have one, it isn't very good for your body. All the information I found on the ink and infections you can get makes me second guess why I even got one. Although they can mean a lot to someone and mine does I am putting my body at risk for infection so it is very important to clean them as often as the tattoo parlor tells you to.

  25. I do not like tattoo's. I cannot understand why people want drawings or words on themselves. I think they are a waste of money. They are also permanent unless you want to endure more pain and spend more money to remove it. My plan to prevent infection is to never get one.

  26. Getting a tattoo is a serious life decision that shouldn't be taken lightly. A dirty parlor could give you an incurable disease. Although as long as the establishment is safe I honestly don't see a problem with tattoos. They are a fun way to personalize your body.

  27. In my opinion Tattooing is fine. As long as it's done in a safe parlor. It's a form of expression so i think it's fine. I don't think Risk is something that should stop you from getting a tattoo.
